Arkansas State University
Dr. Juli Buxbaum is the Assistant Professor of Horn at Arkansas State University in Jonesboro, Arkansas. She also currently serves as the Assistant Chair for the A-State Department of Music.
An avid chamber musician, Dr. Buxbaum is a member of Bantam Winds and Nordestrio and has toured with groups nationally and internationally in Brazil, Japan, Switzerland, and Germany. Orchestral engagements include third horn with the Jackson Symphony and regular appearances with orchestras such as the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra and the Symphony of Northwest Arkansas. Dr. Buxbaum is also a passionate educator and researcher, having presented at conferences with a particular interest in increasing access to horn pedagogy resources in rural areas.
She received both a DMA and MM in Horn Performance from Arizona State University and holds a BM in Music Education from Oklahoma State University. Her primary teachers include Lanette Lopez-Compton and Dr. John Ericson.
Outside of music, she enjoys exploring and traveling with her husband, Taylor, and her dog, Tucker.
Henderson State University
Dr. Heather Thayer, Associate Professor of Music at Henderson State University, enjoys a career in numerous settings. As the founder of Arkadelphia Chamber Players, Dr. Thayer is passionate about chamber music and performs regularly with the HSU Wind Quintet and the HornPipe Duo. She has performed for International Music Festivals, conferences, and solo recitals throughout the United States and abroad, including Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Finland, Sweden, Norway, and Panama.
She has held teaching positions at Southeastern Oklahoma State University, Austin College, Ouachita Baptist University, and was a Teaching Assistant at The University of North Texas. In addition to instructing all levels of applied horn and violin, Dr. Thayer teaches lecture courses in aural skills and music theory. She has performed with several bands and orchestras, including the Lone Star Wind Orchestra, The Signature Symphony, and the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra.
In her spare time, she enjoys traveling and hiking with her husband, Richard, and her dog, Rosie.
A-State Horn Studio
The A-State Horn Studio is a dynamic and close-knit community of talented musicians, comprising students pursuing undergraduate and graduate music degrees as well as minors in music. Students in the A-State Horn Studio engage in a wide range of performance opportunities while developing strong pedagogical and technical skills. Whether preparing for careers in teaching, performance, or advanced study in music, A-State horn students are supported in their musical journey every step of the way.
The Department of Music is located in the Fine Arts Center. This building hosts classrooms, practice rooms, rehearsal and exhibit spaces, and a modest recital hall for performances.
Located next door to the Fine Arts Center, the HSS building has large lecture halls and classroom spaces for lectures, presentations, and masterclasses.
Evening concerts will be held across campus at Riceland Hall within the Fowler Center, about 0.6 miles from the Fine Arts Center. This concert hall features a large 2,000 square foot stage and auditorium with a capacity of 970 seats.

The system office is based in Little Rock and serves almost 35,000 students annually on campuses in Arkansas and Queretaro, Mexico, and globally online.
